But, soft! What light through yonder window breaks? [CLOSED]
"It is the east, and Juliet is the sun."
El turned toward a window the large deserted hallway, gazing at it if it were a long lost lover. Stepping carefully toward the window, he continued "Arise, far sun, and kill the envious moon. Who is already sick and pale with grief, that thou her maiden art far more fair than she." Upon reaching the window, he touched it carefully and cautiously. "Be not her maid, since she is envious; Her vestal livery is but sick and green and none but fools do wear it; cast it off." El watched as the sun begain to sink beneath the horizon, but nonetheless continued his words. "It is my lady, O, it is my love! O, that she knew she were!" Looking suddenly curiously at the sinking sun, he backed up slightly away from the window "She speaks yet she says nothing: what of that? Her eye discourses; I will answer it." Leaning forward slightly, El then hesistated "I am too bold," he said with a simple shake of his head "'Tis not to me she speaks: Two of the fairest stars in all the heaven. Having some business, do entreat her eyes. To twinkle in their spheres till they return. What if her eyes were there, they in her head?"
Stepping farther away from the window, El took a deep breath before speaking again "The brightness of her cheek would shame those stars, as daylight doth a lamp; her eyes in heaven would through the airy region stream so bright that birds would sing and think it were not night." Suddenly, El straightened up and all of his attention went to the window "See, how she leans her cheek upon her hand! O, that I were a glove upon that hand, that I might touch that cheek!"

Re: But, soft! What light through yonder window breaks? [CLOSED]
Nikki was coming down the hallway when she heard the opening lines of the balcony scene from Romeo and Juliet. She wasn't sure who was doing them, but she couldn't help but want to respond. She had been studying Shakespeare since her little audition with Mr. Butler, where she had found out that he had a passion for the Bard. She had just read the balcony scene a couple of days before and had committed most of it to memory. So when the male voice stopped, she picked up the cue and responded.
"O Romeo, Romeo! Wherefore art thou Romeo?
Deny thy father and refuse thy name;
Or, if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love,
And I'll no longer be a Capulet." She paused, she thought there was a Romeo line here but she couldn't remember for sure so she just continued on.
"'Tis but thy name that is my enemy.
Thou art thyself, though not a Montague.
What's Montague? It is nor hand, nor foot,
Nor arm, nor face. O, be some other name
Belonging to a man.
What's in a name? That which we call a rose
By any other word would smell as sweet.
So Romeo would, were he not Romeo called,
Retain that dear perfection which he owes
Without that title. Romeo, doff thy name;
And for thy name, which is no part of thee,
Take all myself."
She came around the corner and came face to face with El. "Oh, it's you El. Hope you didn't mind me butting into your scene, but Mr. Butler has gotten me really into Shakespeare recently. I am just learning the balcony scene."

El hesitated for a moment as a girl's voice responded to him with Juilet's lines. As he realized who it was, his heart jumped into his throat. Watching her for a second as she spoke, El couldn't help but find the irony in this. A girl he liked, playing Juilet to his Romeo? He then smiled, gaining his composure and put his pointer finger to his lips "Let's continue," he said to her. This was great, maybe if they did the whole scene she might get some kind of hint? El knew that he had a tendency to be kind of flirty, but he was hoping that if he acted passionately enough that she might realize some of it was real. Ah, god how he hoped.
Leaning toward her slightly, not enough to invade her personal space completely but enough to so they could stare directly into each other's eyes he took her hand and squeezed it lightly. "I take thee at thy word: Call me but love, and I'll be new baptized; Henceforth I never will be Romeo." He smiled at her, almost in an encouraging manner.

She smiled as he took her hand, was he acting or was it more? He didn't have to continue the scene, but he did. Gods, it was like the scene she had done with Mr. Butler for her audition. She should just go for Shakespeare more often if this is what it did to guys.
"What man art thou, that, thus bescreened in night, So stumblest on my counsel?" she responded. She was just grateful that she could remember the lines, especially with him holding her hand, and looking at her that way.

Good good, this was great! El resisted the urge to grin from the fact that she managed to remember her lines. He knew that with some people Shakespeare was extremely difficult to understand and just read in general. Unconsciously, he moved closer to her so that about a foot of space was in between them. Jeez was she beautiful, his expression then changed though- to match the words he was about to say.
"By a name
I know not how to tell thee who I am:
My name, dear saint, is hateful to myself,
Because it is an enemy to thee;
Had I it written, I would tear the word."
El then looked to Nikki longingly for a moment, losing himself in his own thoughts. It was painful holding onto just her hand when how he wished he could do so much more.

As he moved closer to her, her breath caught a bit, she wasn't used to having a boy be this close to her, especially one that was quoting one of the most romantic plays that she had ever read. The story was so tragic, but they were so much in love. He must be a very good actor for him to be doing this scene with her and making her believe what he said.
"My ears have yet not drunk a hundred words
Of thy tongue's uttering, yet I know the sound.
Art thou not Romeo, and a Montague?"
Shakespeare's work was so beautiful, it even made an accusation sound like the most beautiful poetry. She stared into his eyes. The passion she saw there made her want to reach up and touch him, but she settled for just squeezing his hand.

Was what he was seeing correct? He watched her carefully, attempting to read every facial expression and every reaction. He knew she was more into art then the theatre, so some of it might be natural right? Oh, how he hoped. If he were right, it seemed as if she were believing his actions. "Neither, fair saint, if either thee dislike." With those word he took a some small strands of her hair, staring at it for a moment- he rubbed the hair in between his pointer and finger and thumb and then turned his attention back to her face; letting the hair drop back into it's place. He had to pay attention to every detail at the moment, anything that might give him some hope that she might think of him as more then just a friend.

She paused as he took a strand of her hair between his fingers. She was having a hard time remembering her next lines. But then again she had heard from Jay that he was into hair and makeup, so was he flirting or just gauging her hair condition? She knew she treated her hair way too rough but she liked it flaming red. It was eye catching and gave her a different look than her original plain brown, she hadn't been a brunette since she first tried out the redhead look in her freshman year. Oh yeah the next lines.
"How camest thou hither, tell me, and wherefore?
The orchard walls are high and hard to climb,
And the place death, considering who thou art,
If any of my kinsmen find thee here."
She gave in to her first impulse, if he could touch her hair, she could touch more than his hand. She reached up and ran her hand along his jaw as she spoke. If he pulled back then she could say that it was just the play, and she was just acting the part.

As she touched his jawline, El's heart stuttered for a moment. Was this it? Was this what he had been waiting for? He felt as if any moment he might explode from how close they were. Deciding to close up some space, El took a step so as to make that only a few inches were in between them. Leaning toward her slightly, he continued the lines.
"With love's light wings did I o'er-perch these walls;
For stony limits cannot hold love out,
And what love can do that dares love attempt;
Therefore thy kinsmen are no let to me."
When he spoke the second line, El let go of her hand and moved his own to a place just a little bit above her waist. By the third line, he pushed lightly- not enough to force her to move closer but just enough to urge her too. It was choice, not force that El was relying on. By the time he had finished his lines though, El's breathing changed a little- and he found himself inhaling more deeply because he couldn't get enough of how she smelled.

She couldn't believe that he was holding her, touching her, urging her closer, not that he had to encourage her too much. She hadn't expected this kind of reaction to a simple touch. She moved even closer as she felt his gentle encouragement to come closer. Could she rememeber her line? What was it? Oh yeah, this was a short one.
"If they do see thee, they will murder thee." That was harsh of Juliet's relatives. Well times are different. She couldn't see her parents objecting to anyone she loved, well mom might not like a gun-toting Republican, but otherwise her parents, well her mother at least, was one of the most accepting people she knew. She was so glad that she didn't live in the time of this play.
She gave her line and was highly aware of how close they were and that his arm was around her, and she wasn't sure exactly what she was supposed to do. She settled on caressing his cheek again.

When she moved closer to him, El finally realized that there was only a few centimeters in between his body and hers. He knew he wouldn't be able to do it, what he had constantly dreamed about. Only a little bit closer though... and it might come to both of them on it's own. Touching his forehead to hers, El stared into her eyes as he began to speak;
"Alack, there lies more peril in thine eye
Than twenty of their swords: look thou but sweet,
And I am proof against their enmity."
It was about the closest he could get to her and he knew it. Oh, he wanted even closer- but El feared for his own dignity and pride like any other man would. He wouldn't be able to keep his self upright if she were to touch her lips to his, it would be overwhelming he knew it- and infront of the woman he had admired for a year El would rather keep his pride and then risk it. On the other, having been around females for almost the entirety of his life; he knew that this might be the perfect and only time he could possibly do anything...

She looked into his eyes. They were so close yet there was an immense gap of millimeters between their lips. All she would have to do would be roll her head back a little and they would kiss. Was it what she wanted? Hell yes. Was she brave enough to do it? Mom always told her to just go with her heart and everything would work out alright. So she did, she rocked her head back so that her lips closed the gap between them. It was a quick chaste kiss, like you might give a friend, but it brought walls crashing down. El had been her friend, someone who gave her advice on how to best do her hair and makeup, and now he had crossed the line from friend to possible boyfriend. Was she comfortable with this, not really, but she was never one to take the comfortable route. She was always one to take chances, you can't be an artist and take the comfortable route.

El was wrong when he had thought that he would faint when they kissed, oh, he was so terribly wrong. Instead of fainting, his body took over his mind. In all his teenage years, El was finally experiencing the true meaning of hormones. As their lips collided, instead of staying stiff like he thought he would- El's arm around Nikki's waist tightened and he pulled her as close to him as she could possibly be. His other hand went to the back of her neck, and he angled her head slightly so he could do something more then just a peck on the lips. This kiss was deep, and El wasn't sure how he was going to tear himself away from her after this. Sure, he had kissed girls before- he had even lost his first kiss to some girl he was acting with; although he never admitted this.
For the first time in his life, El was having a real life, real emotion, real unplanned kiss.

She had gambled on a quick kiss, but he took the idea and ran with it. She was swept away with his passion, and responded in kind. She was becoming overwhelmed with the heat of his kiss. This was lots better than the one that Mr. Butler had given her during her audition. That one was just part of the play compared with this. This was the real thing. She slid her arms around his neck and ran her hands through his hair. This was nice, no, better that nice, it was wonderful.
She suddenly remembered where they were, she was hoping that they weren't providing a show for someone. Not that she really minded, she liked being right where she was. She hadn't really ever been kissed like this before, and she was finding out that she really liked it.
As they came up for air, she looked him in the eye, "I hope that wasn't just part of the scene. I'm a little fuzzy on how that scene ends." She caressed his cheek, hoping that this wasn't just him acting.

El could've done more, but he knew that they both needed to breath. As she spoke though, El let out a long sigh and touched his forehead to hers. Closing his eyes, he inhaled deeply; attempting to gain control of his heart but failing. "I-I've... liked you for a long time, Nikki."
There! He finally said it! FINALLY HE SAID IT. Inside his brain, he could hear himself yelling and screaming some voices of himself celebrating; others screaming in protest. Everything was conflicting, but he had already kissed her for goodness sake! The catch was that she had kissed him back. Suddenly, as that fact hit him everything started to spin for a moment. Letting go off Nikki and taking a step back, El felt his world slowly turning every which way and upside down. Before he even realized it, El dropped to the floor and fell unconscious.

She couldn't believe it, he LIKED her. Well, as than as a friend, she guessed. Then he stepped back and collapsed. She looked at him in horror, had she done that? Did he have a weak heart? She desperately looked around, no one she could send for help. She knelt beside him. He appeared to be breathing, that was a good sign. She put her ear to his chest. His heart was beating, but rather fast. What did she learn in first aid class two summers ago. Her mother had insisted that she learn first aid, because you never knew when you would need it. If someone faints, you should lay them on their back, ok he was on his back. She needed to raise his feet above his heart level. She retrieved her book bag from where she had placed it earlier when she had started the scene. She propped his feet up on that, not high enough, so she slipped out of her hoodie and used that to raise his feet some more. Then loosen any tight clothing. She looked down at him, a jacket, but that was open, and a tshirt under that, not too tight around the neck. She suddenly blushed, glad that he wasn't awake to see her. His pants, there was no way that she was loosening his pants. If they were too tight, well he would just have to lie there. She would give him a minute or two and if he didn't revive on his own, she would call 911.

It was only in a few seconds that El slowly came back around. As he realized though that he was laying on the ground, El immediately sat up- his face turning a bright red. "Did I just do what I think I did?" he said quietly in a horrified voice. He couldn't believe, he had kissed her... AND THEN he passed out. Well, at least he hadn't fainted while he was kissing her...
El blinked and then frowned, looking at her for a moment. Feeling extremely embarrassed though he looked down at the ground instead, "I'm usually not like this," he said quite simply as his cheeks turned bright pink. God, he was making a fool of himself... why had she kissed him back?

"Yeah, you passed out," she said sheepishly. "Don't get up to fast or you'll be down again. Maybe you ought to go to the nurse, you seem awfully flushed." She smiled, she didn't want him to be sick or something. She hoped it wasn't something catching or after that kiss she would be sure to have it too.
"Bye the way, if you ever want to kiss me like that again just let me know, that was really nice, a bit unexpected, but nice." Now she was blushing. It went so well with her red hair. She didn't think it was nice, more like a-freaking-mazing, but she couldn't tell him that.

El looked at her uncertaintly as Nikki spoke, surprisingly though he smiled a little bit.
"I'm not sick, I'm in love."
Reaching forward, his fingers skimmed over her cheek for a moment before he dropped his hand. "Thanks," he then said to her quietly with a small chuckle. It was strange, El felt so happy at this moment that he was actually calm. The kind of happy that's so overwhelming that all you can do is just sit there and breath, and smile like an idiot. Suddenly though, words started to roll out of his mouth unexpectedly "Would you like to umm... no, w-w-will you be..." El paused looked slightly dazed and confused as he attempted to think his words out "Girlfriend?" he finally asked her with an inquistive look in his eyes. He took one of her hands in his, and squeezed it lightly.

"Girlfriend?" she squeeked, this was almost a big of a surprise as the kiss had been. "Sure," she quickly agreed squeezing his hand back. She leaned forward and kissed him again. She really liked him so this was a no brainer. She hadn't considered him that way until now but it made sense. They had been friends for awhile and this was just taking their friendship to a new level.
She stood and holding out her hands she helped him stand again. "So I guess this means that I'll have a date for homecoming." she grinned at him. "But only if you help me with my hair and makeup."

El couldn't help but grin at her reply, his cheeks turning a bright pink. As she kissed him again, he restricted himself- making the kiss short and simple.
"Yeah," he said to her as she helped him up. "Definitely," he then said to her second comment; still holding onto one of her hands- almost unwilling to let go.
