[ THE ULTIMATE GOAL ]: To see her students go professional and reach their dreams.
[ THE PREVIOUS SUCCESSES ]: Photographed for the newspaper, played the main part in three musicals and used to be a professional prima ballerina before it became too intense. Mai had her name up in lights at the theatre at one point when she was young, after she became a prima ballerina and turned to professional dancing.

[ THE STRUGGLES ]: Finding out about her parents deaths, Mai was adopted by the Philips when she was five. She finds it difficult to talk to them and doesn’t like visiting them in Louisiana, although she still regards them as her parents.

[ THE OTHER SCHOOL ]: Performing Arts School – graduated with a major in dance in the end. Mai had been there her whole life.
Finally became a professional dancer, receiving qualifications to teach dance.

LOOKS, LOCKS, AND LEGS

[ THE PLAYED-BY ]: Ziyi, Zhang

[ THE EYES ]: Rather large, deep almost black eyes they can be a little off-putting if Maiya is staring into space. They are crescent shaped, covered with a thin layer of eyelashes. Whenever she smiles, they always raise up a little at the edges, but have always made her seem stoic. Not a lot of her emotions are cast through her eyes.

[ THE HAIR ]: Maiyas hair has never changed colour, from when she was a baby it was always black and has only gotten thicker with age. It is the same colour throughout and is constantly seen pulled back in classes, with a simple brown hair band, the length can be rather irritating for a dancer. It reaches just about to her belly-button and not an inch longer, rather curly sometimes but is at it’s longest when straight. Otherwise the length is to her elbow.

[ THE SMILE ]: Maiya has a warm smile, she doesn’t smile with her teeth often, she has little dimples either side of her lips. Whe she does give a beaming smile it is big and beautiful. Her smile usually conveys her happiness, Maiya isn’t one to smile constantly, if she does it is important otherwise her mouth remains in a relaxed line most of the time.

[ THE OTHER FACIAL STUFF ]: Her lips are a little smaller than the average size, it is hardly noticeable. Usually upturned in a cupids arrow shape, they fit her face perfectly, making her seem very symmetrical.

[ THE BUILD ]: Maiya is thin, as she was always taught to stay throughout her time in her performing arts school. She has not really struggled with her weight and anything on her is pure muscle from the constant dancing.
[ THE HEIGHT ]: 5”3
[ THE WEIGHT ]: 90lbs.
[ THE POSTURE ]: From her dancing lessons, Maiyas posture is perfectly straight, and constantly upright. If she doesn’t keep it straight, it hurts and she has to pull herself up.

[ THE CLOTHING ]: She likes baggy clothes, Maiya loves lots of different colours but prefers dresses to jeans a lot of the time. Really, she’s not too fussed as long as she is comfortable and warm.

[ THE HYGIENE ]: Maiya is partial to a shower everyday, after a particularly tough work out, who wouldn’t? She is always clean for fear of completely embarrassing herself otherwise!

FAMILY: HATE TO LOVE 'EM?

[ THE PARENTS ]: Mother: Jennifer Philips – Physiotherapist. Dad: David Philips – Doctor. Biological parents: Chung Wei Li – her mother, deceased. Zhang Mailie – father, deceased.

Mai has a strained relationship with her parents, after finding out when she was 10 that she was adopted they explained that she was in a car crash and came out as the only survivor when she was five, so she through herself into her dancing. It had never occurred to her that she was adopted, Maiya thought that she was just like all the other kids.

[ THE SIBLINGS ]: If Maiya has a brother or sister, she doesn’t know about them. It was just her in the car with her parents when it crashed.
[ OTHER IMPORTANT RELATIONSHIPS ]: Her mother was the most important person to her in her family, she pushed Mai whenever she has struggled to continue with her dream. It began tearing apart when she said that her mother had lied to her, that Mai didn’t know she was different and that considering how close they were that she refused to ever talk to her mother again. They had an argument when Maiya turned 20 and Mai now has as little contact with them as necessary.

[ IMPORTANT ANCESTRY ]: Maiya doesn’t know anything about her parents, only their names. She doesn’t know what they looked like, their jobs or why they had moved from China to the US. She researches whenever she can, but Maiya doesn’t want to cause herself more grief by opening the skeleton closet further.
