[ THE ULTIMATE GOAL ]: To the rest of the world, Devon's goal is to attain a commission from a famous art guild, display her work in New York City, and eventually open up her own art museum filled with fabulous works by unknown artists. When she is honest with herself, Devon realizes that her true goal is far less glamorous - to follow in the footsteps of Neil Gaiman and create a world renown series of graphic novels. She has been sketching for years, but has yet to display her most valued works to anyone but herself.
[ THE PREVIOUS SUCCESSES ]: When she was 8 years old, Devon was voted MVP for the Buffalo Blazer junior hockey league. That same year, a local art instructor noticed a promotional sketch Devon had drawn for the team and invited her to join a beginner's class at her studio. Although she quickly excelled in all areas of visual art, Devon still considers her greatest success to be the day she managed to convince her parents that artistry was a viable life path - they day they signed her admissions papers for Felicity J. Harriman School of the Arts.
[ THE STRUGGLES ]: As a child, Devon was taunted mercilessly for being the only girl player on a male junior league team. When her teammates reached puberty, things only became more awkward for Devon - making her last years before Felicity's nothing short of a nightmare. Although initially well adjusted to the school of the arts, Devon went through a rough patch during her second year after her grandfather passed away. Her outbursts from that year have become legend, and the professors still tend to keep the more valuable supplies out of Devon's reach.
[ THE OTHER SCHOOL ]: Archbishop Kellan's preparatory school was not exactly what Devon would have referred to as fun. The staff was lazy, the students were spoiled, and the material was unbearably drab. Those things, coupled with Devon's regrettably short attention span resulted in a series of marginal passes and parent teacher conferences. Now that she is a student of Felicity's, Devon remembers only one thing from her preparatory school days: drawings are rarely, if ever, suitable answers to test questions.
LOOKS, LOCKS, AND LEGS
[ THE PLAYED-BY ]: Leigh Cook, Rachel
[ THE EYES ]: True to her love for all things colorful and wild, Devon's eyes are a playground for hues - hazel sprinkled with flecks of green, gold, and black. Naturally expressive, they are complimented by thick lashes and the practically perpetual quirk of her eyebrow. Even when she is concentrating or seething, Devon's eyes never squint and her brows never furrow. Even Devon admits that her eyes are easily her most commanding and defining feature - with their sharp, smokey lines, and their full, almond shape, how could they not be?
[ THE HAIR ]: Like the weather, Devon's hair can never be predicted accurately from one day to the next. On the surface, her style is simple - cut into a blunt, chestnut brown, single length bob that falls just along the line of her chin. That, however, is where the predictability ends. Devon's closet is stocked with hair gels (animal-safe, of course), wash-out dyes, and clips, and styling her hair into attention-grabbing, occasionally alarming styles has become all but second nature. Many have said that Devon's hair tends to parallel her art with its abstract, rule-breaking appearance.
[ THE SMILE ]: One look at Devon could convince anyone that there really is a difference between a smile and a sneer. Despite years of orthodontics, Devon chooses to hide her perfect, pearly-white teeth behind closed lips and layers of mauve lip paint. The look gives a misplaced sense of seriousness to her persona, one that is more often than not mistaken for unkindness. Even when she wants to smile, Devon finds herself fighting the urge. Why? Simply because as much as she tries to break boundaries and open minds, she just can't seem to realize that smiling doesn't make a person superficial.
[ THE OTHER FACIAL STUFF ]: Sharp would be the perfect word to describe Devon's features. Her chin is short and pointed. Her nose flows straight down into a point, and her cheekbones could only be described as prominent. Even the corners of Devon's mouth and the borders of her eyes sweep out into defining points, giving her entire face a very captivating, artistic look.
[ THE BUILD ]: Despite her big personality, and penchant for aggressive sports, Devon is the textbook definition of petite. Her legs are short, her torso is shorter, and her hands are so dainty that it is often comical to watch her stretch a canvas or wield a blowtorch.
[ THE HEIGHT ]: 5'1
[ THE WEIGHT ]: 107
[ THE POSTURE ]: Guilty as charged, Devon is a sloucher. When standing, she leans on walls, props her hip on doorways, or supports herself in just about any way possible. She more often squats than sits, and she tends to walk with a fairly masculine gait - shoulders down, hips in, and arms swinging.
[ THE CLOTHING ]: If Devon had any respect for the fait hearted or the seizure prone, perhaps she would dress a little more...carefully. As it is, her wardrobe is like a chaotic whirl of dark reds, ripe oranges, and electric blues. The cuts are severe - her shirts often lack arms, or have new extensions sewn on to them in Devon's characteristic tiny stitching. Her pants are always worn and practical - ranging from corduroy to leather to burlap, but never, never denim. And there is always an excess of scarves, hats, or even capes to pull it all together.
[ THE HYGIENE ]: Daily showers, twice-daily toothbrushings, and at least a feigned attempt at hair care are learned behavior in Devon's book. Even so, she keeps it simple. No scented things, no ribbons, no frills. Most make-up (lipstick is fair game) is ironically terrifying to Devon - even if she spends a good portion of her days (and nights) painting everything within her sight, she can't stand the thought of being made up like one of her canvasses.
FAMILY: HATE TO LOVE 'EM?
[ THE PARENTS ]: Camilla Jasmine Perecles (38, event planner & socialite) & Marcus (Mark) Mason Perecles (41, Hotel Tycoon). Camilla and Mark started out their days together as the sickeningly sweet love story set to a background of doves and roses. Sadly, that vibe faded long ago, making way for a far more robotic, and mechanical way of life. Wake kids, serve food, kiss goodbye, greet kids, serve food, force conversation, kiss goodnight...that about sums it up.
[ THE SIBLINGS ]: ______ Perecles (first year, department TBD). Devon and her brother have always had an interesting relationship. Different as they are, she has always felt that he understood her in a way no one else could. When she snorts in amusement at some obscure thing, he gets it. When the hot tongue of rage inches its way up her throat, he is the first person to get out of the way.
[ OTHER IMPORTANT RELATIONSHIPS ]: Devon has a habit of running into obscure celebrities on the street. She is still convinced that the disgruntled man she saw on that New York street corner last year was Nicholas Cage. She just knows that the lady who held the door for her on the subway was one of the Spice Girls. Other than that...Devon knows remarkably few influential people, especially considering her parentage. Her grandparents are all either dead or out of the picture, and her parents' existences as only children mean that aunts, uncles, and cousins are just as much fantasy to Devon as her stories or paintings are.
[ IMPORTANT ANCESTRY ]: The Perecles family owns and operates one of the most well known hotel empires in the Continental United States...and the UK, and France, and...well...almost everywhere. Started by her great-grandfather Frederick, the business has passed from father to son for generations. Although Devon is relieved that her double X chromosomes relieve her of all familial responsibility, she can't always deny that she feels slightly jealous of her brother. After all, it's nice to have a choice.
