On pointe. That was certainly going to be a challenge, it always was starting out. It made Maiya think of the first time she put on those shoes, her feet killed her and she couldn't wait to stop and sit down. It was so worth it though. At least this class wasn't going to be going through that for a while. Walking along the corridor, Maiya held in one hand her dance bag, filled with odd bits and bobs, spare hair bands, plasters, cds and her clothes for afterwards.

She was already dressed in her warm up ballet clothing, pink and black leg warmers, and a simple long sleeved tight fitted top and micro shorts with a black leotard underneath all seeming her in some sort of long length leotard and nothing else! Her hair was tied back in a messy bun and her shoes - though Maiya didn't think it likely she would wear them, she had bought them anyway.

Pushing open the door, she wondered how the class would go today, a variety of people and they all had amazing skill. Setting her bag down on the floor at the back of the room, Maiya bend down and rifled through looking for the few cds she had brought. Picking out the couple she had, Maiya stepped over to the stereo, stretching her legs as she walked, stopping and wiggling her toes and then carrying on walking. This was all done in silence, her feet tapping along the wooden floor, barely making a sound. Mai came to the stereo, dumping the cds on the side, she decided to leave it until the class arrived - which should be in a few minutes.

She would stretch until they arrived. Maiya moved to the front of the room, five feet from the wall, lifting her right leg up and holding it for a few seconds. She could barely feel the pull - Maiya remembered doing the same stretch yesterday, muttering the seconds under her breath she switched and repeated. Then moved to her arms, Maiya moved her left behind her back, she arched forward slightly, sliding her arm up as she moved, and holding it with her other arm.

That hurt, her arms were one of her weakest points and Maiya knew she needed to work on them, as a teacher you couldn't afford to have weaknesses. After repeating this move, she fell to the floor, and stretched her arms to her feet, afterwards wiggling her feet around and making sure they were flexible enough.

From what Maiya could remember, the class was going to be about the plies start simple. It was after all the beginning of term, and that would be the proper ballet warm up the class was meant for, the plies, arabesques, the temps lie and hopefully if they had time alot of pirouettes. They were all simple moves, but considering it was just the first class of the new term, they may need to get into practice with their ballet moves. Maiya hated having to put piano music on and was pleased that in fact, the music she had chosen wasn't quite as jumpy and awful as it could of sounded. At least the beginning of the class would begin with some lyrical music.

Sighing, Maiya jumped up from the floor, with perfect ease, leaping over to the stereo and starting a mixed cd for the warm up. The first track began, Maiya placing her heels together and beginning her plies, her arms posed in a symmetrical arch, thumbs in as she slowly lifted her right arm and began. She whispered the lyrics under her breath, trying to concentrate on her timing at the same time. The class would come and she would continue, for now it was good practice.

Ballet is a ball {LESSON} Empty Re: Ballet is a ball {LESSON}

Post  Rea Victoria Sun Jan 11, 2009 5:47 am

First classes always meant having to be very prompt. Rea had experienced being late once before on a first day and she had found herself embarrassed and, to make it even worse, her teacher never took her seriously again. The sophomore kept her footsteps quiet as she tread through the halls. She was making sure not to pull much attention, since she looked somewhat... Naked. The brunette strung her fingers through hair, grumbling as she cursed herself for not making enough time to make a proper bun. She had a feeling she might get reprimanded for it, so she just stuck the long tresses in a ponytail that kept most of it from her face, the slight exception being her bangs. The girl turned a corner, almost snagging her "European Pink" tights. She jumped to the side, avoiding the protruding water fountain. Rea shook her head at herself. "Be more careful. " The brunette mumbled to herself as she pushed open the door to the dance studio.

The dance studio was a haven to her. It was high class, and probably one of the best studio's she had ever dance in. Rea scanned the room, only catching a sight of someone who she thought was their teacher. Good. First there. The same silence enveloped her as she stepped across the specialized wooden floor to set down her small black duffle bag which was simply filled with things she would need if some kind of accident happened. An extra leotard, an extra pair of tights, some dance shorts and a shirt... the list went on. Rea pulled off her oversized gray plaid flannel, happy to be free of the stiff material. She wore a simple pair of black micros much like her teachers over her tights. The shorts somewhat blended with her leotard, at first giving her a body-suit look. She looked once more at her teacher and groaned. Did she really dress wrong? She remembered her old teacher battering into her head to never dress in anymore than a leotard and tights when coming to a lesson... Now she was thinking she may be the only one wearing a leotard. She shook her head, pushing off the oncoming thoughts of Embarrassment with a heavy minded 'No'. Well, maybe it meant that she didn't need to do her bun then?

Ballet is a ball {LESSON} Empty Re: Ballet is a ball {LESSON}

Post  Isabelle Cauldine Sun Jan 11, 2009 11:38 am

The first day of ballet classes! Isabelle had waited a long time while Mai had been preparing to have class, doing her own independent studies and preparing for summer auditions and spring semester expos, but it was still a thrill to be in class. Mind you, she'd have to see Will, if he even decided to show up to class, but she'd do her best to ignore him. Though, it was kind of hard to ignore someone when they were the ones in charge of grabbing you and hurling you in the air.

Having pulled on her turqoise leotard and matching legwarmers, and white ballet slippers, she finally felt ready for dance. Pulling on only a black sweater over her leotard, Isabelle didn't even bother with sweatpants, walking to the dance-studio as-was with her dance bag slung over her shoulder.

Ah, ballet. While Izz adored the passion of contemporary dance, she couldn't help but love the classics; after all, it was ballet that had turned her onto dancing in the first place when she was younger. The tutus, the delicate women, the point shoes. It was all so wonderfully feminine. Running her hands over her tight bun as she neared the dance studio, Izz was pleased to hear Mai's warm-up music playing loudly.

Rea had already made it, but that she already knew- after all, they were roommates. Isabelle greeted her with a nod, having seen her not five minutes before, and set her bag down next to her roommate's. Nodding her greeting at Maiya, she moved into her stretches, leaning over slowly and gracefully and laying her forearms over the floor. The burn was nice, and she'd have to be stretched out properly for ballet- it took so many muscles!

Maiya heard a quiet groan sound over the music, pausing she looked to the door, seeing Rea Victoria standing there looking a little confused? Mai couldn't be sure, whatever it was it didn't look good, smiling at her she stopped for a moment. The music blaring around them, she shouted over it, "If you want to start with a quick warm up and then work on some of the basics?" The bar was set over in the corner, it was for people that needed help with their balance and posture, of course the older years were perfectly fine without it.

Maiya swooped her hand down taking a deep bend and then moved back up before stretching her legs out and pointing her toes. Her arms resting at her sides, Maiya clearly having stopped just as the door opened again. Isabelle Cauldine greeting her, and then beginning her stretches. The music suddenly coming to an end and then moving onto the next track, track two slowly began playing the volume just starting to pick up again.

Both of the girls had brought their ballet shoes, so Maiya assumed that was what they would practice in later. "Hello Izz" Muttering the chorus of the song under her breath, she went through a couple of the dance steps they would be learning. The male students needed to get over to the dance studio so they could start!

"We'll start with some arabesques and the temps lie for now. The jumps and lifts won't be able to be done until the boys get here" Maiya walked towards the stereo, sliding to the floor, her body side by side with the stereo, she flicked through the cds. The usual paquita, la bayadere, giselle would hopefully suit the mood. It was one of the things she was always fussy about when she had to practice and teach, the music.
