The Best Things [judy and phil] Empty Re: The Best Things [judy and phil]

"Isn't that amazing," cooed Simon - or Phil Davis, rather - at the little, round table covered in a fine, white table cloth off to the left side of the stage. "Imagine a girl in show business today wanting to settle down and raising a family; it's... so refreshing, isn't it?" So far, so good, Simon had to think. As a matter of fact, the show was feeling abnormally natural. Especially on opening night. Simon gave a big Phil Davis grin and leaned back in his chair as "Judy" turned to his brother and the pair began to ramble on about show advice. It was really a little bit ironic, now that Simon thought about it. After all, Izz had suddenly become so fluttery and tightly-wound in the last few weeks of rehearsals, asking questions and advice on things that she had not only perfected, but had known from the very beginning. Simon's smile widened as he fought the urge to chuckle.

Still, most of Simon's attention wasn't on the lines El and Izz recited like pro's on their sides of the table. Instead, Simon was almost entirely focused on the upcoming dance sequence - the most important of his dance numbers in the whole length of the show. His dance number with Izz. But then before he had a chance to ruminate on what was about to happen, Jay gave him a quick nudge under the table, cuing him for his upcoming line. "Would you like to dance?" he squawked with a start as he sprung to his feet, extending his hand to Izz as she protested. Damn he was lucky that Danny Kaye had acted just as awkwardly in the movie, otherwise he would've felt like a major idiot for letting his thoughts stray. Still, Phil Davis led Judy Haynes into the middle of the stage, pulling her close and spinning slowly as Bob and Betty spoke sternly of the "angles" of show business. He inserted the right sarcastic quips as he and Izz continued to slowly sway around the stage.

And then, after a little more dialogue between El and Jay, the spotlight turned back to him and Izz. They launched into a cool conversation, speaking of Vermont and snow, but mainly just staring warmly back at each other as they proceeded in small circles. He smiled bashfully as Judy told him that that's what she had just said, crooning, "We seem to be getting a little bit mixed up."

The Best Things [judy and phil] Empty Re: The Best Things [judy and phil]

Isabelle had been so nervous the previous few days that her hands were trembling onstage as she moved about it expertly from scene to scene. Jane had done wonders to calm her down with reassuring smiles, as well as a gentle hand-squeeze from Simon backstage and a hug from El. She could do this, she'd done it a thousand times before, yet she was extremely nervous for reasons she wasn't sure, and every time she was looking at her romantic partner, butterflies invaded her stomach.

Still, her perfect Judy Haynes smile was pasted on her face at all the right moments as she prodded El incessantly for advice on the Haynes act, a bubbly and enthusiastic little blonde as was called for. Finally, after a while of well-staged banter with a beautifully awkward Simon/Phil, the orchestra cued the beginning of one of her favorite scenes of the musical, if not a highly demanding one. As Simon remarked that the pair seemed to be getting mixed up, she smiled sleepily up into his face, her eyes shining.

"Maybe it's the music..." Isabelle commented dreamily, heart pounding inside her chest as their big dance number dres ever closer. Her fifties-style cream dress swirling around her well-toned legs, she smiled amorously at Simon as she was supposed to while he crooned to her, swaying back in forth to the music. Most likely the audience thought it was just good acting, but the sugary look on her face as Simon sang to her sweetly, feeling as though the audience wasn't there at all beyond the blinding and hot stage lights.

Stepping carefully through the choreographed steps laid out by Maiya, Isabelle spun in Simon's arms as the club scene was pushed offstage and they were the only two in the spotlight. Simon was doing spectacularly well as she allowed herself to be guided into the opening steps; hey, maybe even guys with two left feet COULD turn out alright... if the girl was sweet?
